ETC: English theatre company was founded in 1988 by Michael Harry, director of the company.
Since its creation in 1988, ETC’s aim has always been to offer original English theatre that is stylistically and thematically appropriate to the age of the audience as well as being pedagogically valid to their level of English.
We offer a “made to measure” English speaking educational theatre for students of English that is enjoyable, interactive and stimulating. This means, that for certain key ages there is a choice of play. Where there is a choice both plays are suitable for that age group. Which play you choose, depends upon the level of English of the students and their maturity. Just contact us if you have any doubts.
We write, rehearse and perform all our plays with the age, the level of English and the interests of our different audiences in mind. We choose themes and subjects for our plays according to the age and taste of the audience. The age determines the style of each particular play, the level of English defines the language we use.
Our actors are all professional native speaking actors and are trained to adapt and vary their performance according to the audience’s reactions. Although the style of our plays varies they all have one thing in common: they are created to involve the audience - whether emotionally, physically or verbally or, most frequently, all three at the same time.
We do not provide one play and claim it is suitable for everyone as this is impossible. We offer specific plays for specific ages and levels.
To date ETC has created 42 original plays for all ages and levels, given over 7,000 performances and been seen by over 1,900,000 people throughout Europe.
Each play comes with its own resource pack which contains preparation material to use before the performance as well as follow-up work for afterwards.
We perform during school time in your own school or a place arranged by your school.
All our plays last approximately one hour.
The only requirements are:
-
a space that is big enough for the audience. We do not need a traditional theatre, the gym room, the lunchroom or the meeting hall can be perfectly appropriate.
-
A stage area, if possibly raised, of 3 by 4 metres or more with an electrical outlet for our sound system and an area nearby for costume changes.
Where possible, we organise our own days in local theatres for several schools on dates we arrange.
